Implantology

Implantology is the placement of artificial roots in the jaw. Implants serve as a new and solid foundation for a crown, a bridge, or an overdenture (snap-on denture).

Implants are excellent replacements for natural teeth, both in appearance and function. Implants are made of titanium and have the shape of a screw. The implant replaces the tooth or molar and serves as a foundation for a crown, a bridge, or an overdenture.

The advantage of an overdenture is that your denture fits very securely, and your jawbone no longer shrinks because the load on the jawbone is similar to that of your own teeth. As a result, you do not suffer from painful pressure spots, something often seen with traditional dentures. The overdenture has hardly any covered palate, making eating and speaking more comfortable and reducing loss of taste.

Treatment

Here is the English translation: An implant is placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia. The jawbone then grows onto the implant. After that, a denture can be clicked onto the implant, or a crown or bridge can be placed on it. The implantation process is highly individual and can take several months. The implant must first grow firmly (‘integrate’) into the jawbone. After this, a precisely fitting bridge, crown, or denture must be made to place on it. Titanium is highly biocompatible, meaning that the body does not reject it, allowing the jawbone to grow directly against it. This process is called osseointegration. Nowadays, implants successfully integrate in 95% of cases. For patients who have undergone bone reconstruction surgery, smoke, or have diabetes, these percentages are somewhat lower.

Costs

The costs depend on various factors, such as the number of implants to be placed, the type of restoration that will be made (a crown, bridge, or denture), and the associated dental laboratory work. Some treatments, such as overdentures or implants, can be submitted to your health insurance by the dental implantologist.

The cost of an intake appointment is €195.51 (codes J010 and X21), which includes an OPT (a panoramic jaw X-ray). After the intake consultation, you will receive a cost estimate from us by mail or email. Your policy conditions state which requirements your insurer sets in order to qualify for reimbursement.

The implantologist submits a request for authorization (reimbursement) to your insurance company. If your health insurer grants authorization and approves the treatment, your personal contribution for the denture will be between €300 and €600. When the request for the overdenture is approved, the intake consultation is also reimbursed by your insurance. The treatment falls under the basic insurance, which means it may be deducted from your deductible.
